Brian D. Belski - Director of Bands

Brian D. Belski is the Director of Bands at Savanna High School in Anaheim, CA. He directs the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Chamber Ensembles, and the 165-member Mighty Marching Rebel Band & Colorguard. Mr. Belski received his B.A. in Music Education from UCLA in 1996 and received his teaching credential at Cal State University Long Beach in 1998. While at UCLA, Mr. Belski arranged music for the UCLA Bruin Marching Band and also wrote or arranged music for high school and university bands across the country.  Mr. Belski completed his M.A. in Conducting in 2008 at the American Band College at Southern Oregon University.

Since arriving at Savanna in 2003, Mr. Belski's bands have received Superior ratings at SCSBOA band festivals and jazz festivals. The Rebels have performed at the Rose Bowl, Disneyland, Angel Stadium, the Arrowhead Pond (with Shania Twain), and the Reno Jazz Festival as well as at corporate events for The Walt Disney Company, Mattel, Goodyear Tires, the City of Anaheim, and Pepsi. In December, 2009, the band performed on national television at the Honda Center in Anaheim as the house band for the annual John Wooden Classic college basketball tournament.

The Savanna Mighty Marching Rebel Band and Colorguard is the only band to have been invited to the SCSBOA Field Championships in the 5A division every year since its inception. In 2009 the Savanna Mighty Marching Rebels won the Southern California (SCSBOA) 5A Marching Band Championship.

From 1998 to 2003, Mr. Belski was the Director of Bands at Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, CA. While at Capo Valley, Mr. Belski's wind ensembles and jazz ensembles were consistently rated Superior at festivals and the marching band finished an undefeated season while winning the 2002 SCSBOA Field Championships in the 2A Division.

Mr. Belski was a marching member of the original Velvet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, from Anaheim, CA, from 1992 to 1994 and taught the brass section there in 1996. In 1997, he taught the brass section of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps as they returned to a top 3 finish at the DCI World Championships. Mr. Belski was a member of the brass instructional staff of the Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps from 1999 to 2005.

Mr. Belski recently served as the Vice-President of Public Information for the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) and is also a member of the California Band Director's Association (CBDA), and the Music Educators' National Conference (MENC). He is active as an adjudicator for wind ensembles and marching bands throughout the United States. He regularly travels to attend and present at seminars and workshops devoted to music education in the public schools.

Mr. Belski enjoys travel, camping, boating, attending concerts, bicycling, college football and basketball, and episodes of ABC's "Lost".  He lives with his wife, Sarah, in Irvine, CA.
