Rudy Arevalos – Brass Instructor

Rudy Arevalos is in his fifth year teaching brass methods at Savanna.  He graduated from Magnolia High School and attended Cal State University, Long Beach taking classes in jazz performance and trumpet. 

He was a marching member of the Velvet Knights and Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps back in his marching days.  Rudy performed in musical groups at both Sea World and at the Disneyland Resort and and went on to play trumpet with such well-known jazz professionals as Bob Florence, Johnny Palenco, Wayne Bergeron, Chuck Findley.  He has recorded with both RCA and Warner Brothers Records.

Rudy was a member of the instructional staff for the Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps from 1995 to 2005 and has taught the Mystikal Drum and Bugle Corps since 2006.  He has also taught brass methods, jazz ensemble, and other instrumental music courses at numerous high schools throughout Southern California.

Rudy holds a first-degree black belt in Jiu-jitsu and has many interests including playing anything on his trumpet, he’s ridiculously good at spelling games (who knew?), competitive eating contests, he loves animals, is a pretty decent poker player, and he loves to cook (BBQ is his specialty).

Rudy, his wife Jennifer, and his daughter Ella (born in November 2007) live in Fountain Valley, CA.
