This elective course is designed to develop an understanding of the nature, structure and meaning of the jazz idiom through the rehearsal and performance of advanced jazz literature. This course provides for increasing skill in jazz ensemble performance. This course may be repeated for credit.

Auditions for this ensemble will be held in June for placement in the fall.  Instrumentation is limited to standard 17-piece jazz band: 5 saxes, 5 trombones, 4 trumpets, and rhythm section (piano/bass/drums/guitar). Additional players are included at the discretion of the director. Performance opportunities are numerous for this ensemble.

One overnight trip to the Cuesta College, Santa Barbara, Monterey, or Reno Jazz Festival ($200-$250 per student) may be required.
