The Savanna High School Instrumental Music Department has a long tradition of producing very fine concert bands which perform at concerts and festivals throughout southern California.

There are currently two concert bands at Savanna: the Symphonic Band & the Wind Ensemble. Both groups perform literature from the standard high school and college band repertoire.

The Symphonic Band is made up primarily of 9th grade students and students who are relatively new to their chosen instrument.  This group generally performs works which are classified between grades 2 and 4 on the standard 6 grade scale of difficulty.  Students in this ensemble can expect to develop fundamental skills on their own instrument as well as developing basic ensemble skills and practices.

The Wind Ensemble is made up primarily of upper grade level students who have been performing on their chosen instruments for three years or more.  This group generally performs works which are classified between grades 3 and 6 on the standard 6-grade scale of difficulty.  Students in this ensemble can expect to review fundamental technique on their instrument and to develop an understanding of their particular role in the modern wind band.  Emphasis will be placed on advanced listening skills and intermediate to advanced technical facility and tone development on their instruments.

Students in both ensembles can expect to be challenged to achieve things which they may initially view as impossible or out of their reach.  It is through the consistent development of the individual that the group will achieve new heights.

The Savanna High School Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble are under the direction of Mr. Brian Belski.
